In our Community and the World…
Warm Nights
Warm Nights is a shelter program for the homeless (men, women,
and children) run by the Prince George's County government and
using church buildings and volunteers. Each congregation houses
their guests for the night and feeds them dinner and breakfast.
St. Andrew's participates in this program with a week in February.
Loaves and Fishes Cafe
St. Andrew's Loaves and Fishes Cafe opens its doors from 1:00
to 2:30 pm on the first Sunday of each month, offering lunch to
the low-income and homeless in the parish neighborhood. Volunteers
are needed in all areas.
Thrift Shop
Located in the basement of the Parish Hall, St. Andrew's Thrift Shop is open Thursday 10 am to 2 pm, Thursday 7 pm to 8:30 pm, and the first Saturday of each month 10 am to 2 pm. The Thrift Shop sells seasonal clothing at very reasonable prices, books, household goods, toys, etc. Proceeds from the Thrift Shop benefit programs of St. Andrew's Church.
St. Andrew's enjoys an ongoing relationship with the Vuleka School, a ministry to children in need in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Foster Children
Each Sunday, a Birthday and Anniversary Offering is taken and
the proceeds are used to sponsor four foster children from other
countries.
Gifts to other Organizations
Our Outreach Commission is responsible for the dispersal of the
sizeable budget set aside each year for other outreach.
Within our own Congregation…
Our Congregational Care Commission keeps up with many programs
designed to minister to those in our parish community. One important ministry is our weekly coffee hour fellowship, held after the 10:30 Eucharist on Sunday. Hosting coffee hour is easy and a great way to give back to the parish! Not sure how to do it? Read this set of instructions.
The Greeters join our ushers on Sundays to welcome newcomers.
A group of Lay Eucharistic Ministers takes the Eucharist to our
ill or homebound parishioners regularly.
Each year the commission sponsors a Newcomers Welcome, the Saint
Andrew's Day celebration (complete with bagpipes), a Lenten Lunch,
Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Carol Party, Walking and Bike Hikes,
and Annual Picnic, just to name a few of the events.
